2022-2023 Rules for Competition

The FinLit 300 Challenge has two (2) components: The Online Competition and Live State Championship event.
For The Online Competition, each school must have at least one (1) coach. That coach will be assigned a code. There is no limit to the number of players a coach involves during the online competition. The coach registration period begins Monday, November 13, 2023 and ends Friday, February 16, 2024. The online competition opens Friday, January 26, 2024 and runs through 2 semesters ending on Friday, February 23, 2024 at www.finlit300.com.
Coaches must agree to the following rules to be eligible:
1. Must have authority from the school/program to participate
2. Must agree to proctor the Online Competition to ensure fair play
3. Must be available on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 to attend the State Championship with the school team
During The Online Competition, students will be asked to answer 30 questions, each with varying level of difficulty. Students have 30 minutes to complete The Online Competition, while being proctored by a coach or authorized teacher in collaboration with a coach.
Following the end of the Round 1 Online Competition, the six (6) highest scoring schools in the online competition will be invited to compete in-person at the FinLit300 State Championship event on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at a location to be determined.
Qualifying scores for the State Championship are determined by the NH Jump$tart Coalition program administrator. Qualifying scores are calculated by averaging the individual scores of each school’s top six (6) scoring members, regardless of the number of people on the team. Therefore, whether your school is small or large, the size of the team will not affect your eligibility for the State Championship.
Registered coaches have the discretion to select six (6) total players including (2) alternate players who can be substituted between specified rounds during the State Championship event; (1) coach; and (1) assistant coach (optional). Selected students must have participated in the Online Competition to participate and represent the school at the live event. Teams are also welcome to bring spectators to watch the competition.
PRIZES. Every student participant will receive a certificate of participation. Qualifying team members selected to go to the State Championship event will receive a FinLit300 t-shirt. The winning team members from the State Championship event will each receive a $100 VISA gift card. Additionally, the winning coach/coaches will receive a free registration to the National Jump$tart Teacher Conference in November 2020.

2022-2023 Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free to participate in FinLit300? Yes! There is no charge to participate in The Online Competition or the State Championship. Schools invited to the State Championship may incur expense transporting student teams to the event in Concord, NH. However, there is no registration fee. Lunch and snacks are also included.
How do student players register? Coaches must register in advance of the student players. The coaches’ registration period begins Monday, November 13, 2023 and ends Friday, February 16, 2024. Students can begin The Online Competition (referencing their coach’s special code) between Friday, January 26, 2024 and Friday, February 23, 2024.
Can Homeschool Students participate? Yes. Homeschool teachers are encouraged to serve as coaches. They should, however, plan to include at least four (4) students. This is a requirement to participate in the State Championship.
What subject areas and topics does the FinLit300 Challenge include? There are thirty (30) questions across six (6) categories: Spending & Saving, Credit & Debit, Employment & Income, Investing, Risk Management & Insurance, and Financial Decision Making. The six categories represent learning standards from the National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education. Help prepare your students by familiarizing them with content related to the six categories. You are encouraged to visit National Jump$tart Coalition’s Clearinghouse for access to free educational materials and links.
I would like to be a coach and start my own team. How do I begin that process? The coaches’ registration period begins Monday, November 13, 2023 and ends Friday, February 16, 2024. At the time you register, you will agree to select six (6) players and may include two (2) alternate players who can be substituted between specified rounds during the State Championship event, if your school/program qualifies. Initially, however, you will not need to provide the names of your student participants. All registered coaches will receive a code. When you are ready to invite your students to take The Online Competition, they will associate themselves with your code.
How are scores calculated? The highest score possible is 300. The thirty (30) questions in the online portion on the competition contain different levels of difficulty.
How does a school/program qualify for the State Championship? Qualifying scores for participation in the State Championship are determined by the NH Jump$tart Coalition program administrator. Qualifying scores are calculated by averaging the individual scores of each school or program’s top (6) scoring members, regardless of the number of people on the team. Therefore, whether your school is small or large, the size of the team will not affect your eligibility for the State Championship. If a coach has multiple classrooms of students participate in the online competition, how will the team be selected to represent the school/program? The coach of each school invited to the State Championship has the discretion to select up to six (6) eligible students (from those who competed in the online competition) to participate and represent the school at the live event.
When and where is the State Championship event? The FinLit300 State Championship event will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at a location to be determined.
